Week 3

In class today each of our groups lay down our own a3s of ideas for others to get an idea of where everyone was at and reassurance for no double ups. Our two ideas were Tie dying and decorating your own lampshade.

The lampshade idea was most successful out of the two, leaving us with a fair amount of stickers but not quite with the guarantee of a 'great idea' as Anna said we should really be feeling confident about. So we sat down with Anna after and discussed our next step and came to the conclusion that the best thing for us to do would be to do a big brainstorm of ideas and find one that we are all really happy to work on.

We basically have to just come to the conclusion that every good idea has already been thought of, so we have to use a good idea as a base to expand our idea off. We were still interested in working with the lampshades and really love some of the images (at the bottom right of the a3) which are using more natural materials/resources and also with the small cutout they are able to display another image along with light placed in the centre.

The 'light' idea is the idea we wanted to play with. This was one of the main faults within the lampshade idea, being that it would be difficult, if someone was to buy one of our lampshades, to not only source the rest of the materials e.g. light bulb and power plug to equip the shade but also all the specifics that come along with the light bulb. Therefore we thought of using a different source of light, a candle.

Along with candles came the idea of miniature tea lights. Tea lights are cheap, cute and easy to work with, and really everyone loves miniature things. We love the current trend of DIY candles and hanging plants etc but would there be a way to combine the two? We are looking at creating tea light candle holders using natural or recycled resources. Some of these might include clay, glass, recycled paper, wood, concrete, shells, clay and many more. While coming up with the idea we were online looking for reassurance that this was all possible and that we would have interest/passion in creating them, and there are so many different crafts online that really helped us gain that reassurance and get quite excited about the whole thing.
