Re-posting: Team Ambassador

I have a few posts to put up as they have been saved under word documents and haven't been put up on the blog but have been discussed and been crucial with the team over the whole process.

Team Ambassador- I had volunteered to be our Team ambassador for this assignment. This involved communicating through email, discussing and sourcing materials and information with other facilitator teams to arrange and sort what my group would require for our project/ stall and making it all come together.

With this document it had a lot of involvement of sorting out of finer details needed for the stall, these are notes from collaborating and going to each group sorting the details and also after discussion with the rest of the group once I had laid down these options to them:

Facilitators:

In terms of all the little groups they one big team
They chip in $25 each for making of stalls etc. and paying for other general costs.

Tokens: Token system has been suggested as a form of currency: buy $5 worth of tokens- get 7 tokens, two of which will be voting tokens (best facilitator group, best maker group).

As a group you decided how much you feel your product/ service is worth using the token currency… we were thinking for our group between 1-3 tokens depending on size and style of the candle.

Only cash handling that will happen on they day is with the facilitator token exchange, this is the only place where money will play into action during the market. If you have leftover tokens you can go back and exchange it back for cash.10% goes back to the facilitators for their services.

Stall set-ups:

Tables: Tables/ levels will be sourced- we have to tell them what surfaces we want and the rest they will provide the overhead of the structure.

I put forward the request of a long table to put in front of our stall, and have also given them our stall measurements- I asked for one as long as possible, and also wooden. In terms of other surfaces we are still currently deciding as to whether we use extra shelving/ crates to store the candles in and the amount that we will display so we will source those ourselves I believe.

Final Reflection Document - Natalie

I have taken what my team members have posted on the blog regarding a reflection and created our team reflection document. This includes the posts that have all been put up on the blog from my team mates and my own thoughts also.

Popularity of our Stall:
For the market day our stall was very popular. We were very surprised at the start of market day as we started getting sales at about 10 am. We ended up having to stop selling the candles and telling people to come back at 11 when the market actually started as we were already selling out. We were so surprised and flattered that our product was so popular with everyone. We ended up putting our prices up as well as we wanted them to begin cheap because we didn't know how much people were willing to pay. We had a range of prices, some were 2 tokens some were 3 and some were 4. The bigger ones were 4, wood and concrete mostly.  The day of market day our idea and execution did live up to our expectations we do admit we were really surprised at how popular our product was. In the end, we sold every holder that we had made (roughly 75) and received around 180 tokens and 10 voting tokens.

Effort vs Return:
We all believe that the effort we put into this assignment was definitely validated by selling out at the market day. By the time the market came we had made roughly 15 holders each, all out of a variety of materials. We tried to be economic when we could but in the end the process did cost a bit of money and time. Leading up to the market, we were worried all our efforts would be for nothing, and that our product wouldn’t sell well – although we all loved them personally. The wooden, clay and concrete ones especially involved a lot of craftsmanship and elbow grease. When we had sold nearly half our stock by 11am at the market, we realised that we had a really popular product and were restored with confidence. We were forced to up our prices to last the duration of the market, but still sold all 75 holders 20 minutes from the end of the day.

Currency:
As we have stated, we had some issues deciding on how to price our product and predict how popular our holders would be. At the very beginning of the assignment, we had low confidence and were only planning to charge a token each for our product. As we made more and more holders and they became of a higher quality, we realised we were better off constructing a slightly smaller amount, as we could charge more for each holder due to craftsmanship and materials. At the beginning of the market we were charging 2 tokens for the smaller holders and 3 tokens for the larger ones. We were selling out very fast so ended up re-evaluating this to 3 tokens for the smaller ones and 4 for the larger. We still sold our product well and ended up making $190 from our 75 holders.

Group Functioning:
We all believe our group worked really well as a team for this assignment. In the lead-up to the Market Place event our group mostly communicated through a Facebook page between our classes to make sure everything was running smoothly. Instead of people being expected to do their own thing, we designated tasks for each of us to complete by a certain date, which worked really well in keeping everyone happy and busy! The set up the night before went smoothly as we had a clear idea of what we wanted our stall to look like. Each of us had brought in our own candle holders that we had created along with other items to create our stall aesthetic. The Market Day itself went really well, we each spent some time behind the stall. For the majority of the time it was either Shem and Michelle, or Natalie and Maddie, but the time went really fast, especially the first hour with the rush of people so we all hanged around for a while!

Working in a Team:
We believe as a group collective we have learnt many things about ourselves, the process and how it is to produce one product as a group. We believe that as a team we worked quite well, not only in terms of communicating with each other and making sure that everyone was aware of what was happening, so that we all progressed throughout the process as a group, rather than individuals working at different stages/paces of the assignment. The only downside of working in a team we found from such a broad 2nd year cohort would be everyone’s schedules- we always made it a point to set up weekly meetings so everyone can keep on track. However with everyone being under different majors sometimes it was quite difficult to get everyone together, especially when it came to around hand-in time for our other papers.

Audience Response to our Stall:

Although we couldn’t quite have the dimly lit sanctuary space that customers could walk into and immerse themselves in our product that we had initially idealized, we were happy with the way we dressed our stall. It looked organic and eco, while looking clean and professional. When customers approached our stall, they were drawn to our full table, and we believe the tablecloth and wooden crates helped sell our product. The fairy lights adding to the extra illumination that we had in the stall, and our large banner told people who we were. Customers seemed to respond positively to our stall, and we believe we would not have sold as well, had we not arranged/decorated our stall accordingly. We took photographs of all our happy customers at our stall with their new holders and photographs documenting the sell out.

What have your learnt from working in a team? What worked and what didn't? What would you do the same and what would you do differently?

I believe as a group collective we have learnt many things about ourselves, the process and how it is to produce one product as a group. I believe that as a team we worked quite well, not only in terms of communicating with each other and making sure that everyone was aware of what was happening, so that we all progressed throughout the process as a group, rather than individuals working at different stages/paces of the assignment. We also worked quite well in ensuring that everyone got tasks that would help our idea go forward e.g. with initial testing of the candleholders, we all undertook different materials to test what would work and what wouldn’t. We then continued this into our final products where we all produced different materials.

In terms of the stall this was also something that I believe wee achieved quite well in putting together as a collective. We all managed different tasks for the concept and build of the stall and I believe that this all came together as a collective when the stall was put together. The only downside of working in a team I found from such a broad 2nd year cohort would be everyone’s schedules- we always made it a point to set up weekly meetings so everyone can keep on track. However with everyone being under different majors sometimes it was quite difficult to get everyone together, especially when it came to around hand-in time for our other papers. Otherwise I would happily say on behalf of the whole group that working together as a group has been an enlightening experience, and consider myself lucky to be put in a group of people whose ideas and personalities combined well to produce and execute a product that we are all proud of.

Hey this is a review from Matt.

i and the rest of the team were blown away with the interest in our tea light ecoglo candle holder product, personally i just couldnt believe when the punters started queing in numbers infront of our stall, i was totally thankful to those who bought and gave us tokens for all of our products, yet i was truly impressed with the feed back we got from the happy kind people who purchased the candles with the use in mind to take them home and make our product a part of their own personal space where they live. i hope that all those which bought our candles put them to good use, i was a little surprised that our product was so popular but i guess that was what we put in through the weeks of production really payed off, well short and sweet or as lyn the Industrial tutor would say small and perfectly formed, well that was how it was, so pleased with the team and the girls that minded the stall whilst i got to browse the entire market which was awesome. but really thanks to my team and everyone else who had the pleasure to participate. Reflection Document - Michelle Francombe

Group Functioning: what worked and what didn’t? Think both about the process in the lead-up to the FUSE and the day itself

We all believe our group worked really well as a team for this assignment. In the lead-up to the Market Place event our group mostly communicated through a facebook page between our classes to make sure everything was running smoothly. Instead of people being expected to do work we designated tasks for each of us to complete by a certain date which worked really well in keeping everyone happy with everyones efforts and also busy! Due to sicknesses and other reasons for missing classes the facebook page meant we were able to catch up on what we had missed and discuss the next steps. The Fuse day itself went really well, we had established a clear idea of what we wanted our stall to look like and how we were going to execute that so when we went to the Great Hall the night preceding the event we were able to set everything up rather smoothly. Each of us had brought in our own candle holders that we had create along with other items to create our aesthetic, including a calico banner with our brand name painted on, the tags to be attached to all of our candles, crates to display our candles in, plain calico to decorate the stall and create a rustic feel, fairy lights to enhance the light and a vintage style cloth to go over our table! Then the Market Day itself went really well, we each spent some time behind the stall. For the majority of the time it was either Shem and I, or Natalie and Maddie, but the time went really fast, especially the first hour with the rush of people so we all hanged around for a while!

My part of the reflection document- Maddie Barnett

For the market day our stall was very popular. We were very surprised at the start of market day as we started getting sales at about 10 am. We ended up having to stop selling the candles and telling people to come back at 11 when the market day actually started as were were already selling out. We were so surprised and flattered that our product was so popular with everyone. We had a range of prices, some were 2 tokens some were 3 and some were 4. The bigger ones were 4, wood and concrete mostly. On the day our group really performed as a team, we all help out with the stall either setting it up or putting it away and cleaning up our mess at the end. We took turns being at the stall and serving customers and talking to them about our product and how they were made we answered any questions that where asked. Me Natalie, Shem and Michelle were mainly always in our stall. The effort we went to was a lot more towards the end. Through our process we just developed our idea more and more of what we wanted and how we wanted everything to look. We each all had our own tasks of what we needed to do and make, this made it all happen. The end result was all worth it and it was equal we all worked well together as a group and it finally paid off on market day. The day of market day our idea and execution did live up to our expectations we do admit we were really surprised at how popular our product was and we were really hoping we would sell out which we did so this was validated on the day. The way we visualised everything on the day and how it all panned out really did happen and all our wishes came true which was really amazing. Overall the Market day was really amazing Ecoglo was truly a hit and everyone loved our product and stall. The whole experience was worth all the stress and it truly was an amazing and unique day and experience.

Market day images of customers- Maddie Barnett

Photos i took from market day of our customers and lines of people wanting to buy our product!! I didn't take photos of all the customers as some came back twice to get more and at stags we were so busy answering questions and showing everyone the different candles. A lot of the customers and people were happy for me to take photos of them with there purchased product this made the experience better for both us and the customers it made it funner and more interesting. There was a very humble and nice friendly vibe going round which was great everyone was happy and excited.
